week 3

I have gotten my showers down to 7 minutes while also taking them colder than I did before. I have been able to do this every time I have showered since we started the project. I would be pretty likely to continue this habit even if the project ended today based on how much water, time, and money I save just by this basic habit change. It also helps the environment by saving water that we can see being used in other areas on the map ₂.  Around the first ten days, it was pretty easy to take shorter showers without thinking about it. Since it wasn't a super large change it took a shorter time to get used to than the article predicted₁. The article makes me just as likely to continue my habit as I was before I read it.  It is important for people to know its hard to change big habits in the 21 days even if that's what they have heard.  1) Clear, J. Week 1

Week One The first week of my personal impact project went easily and according to plan. I went from taking ten-minute hot showers to six-minute warm showers. Since I listen to music in the shower I just listened to two three minute songs and then I knew it was time to get out . By taking just four minutes off of my nightly shower I was able to get rid of twenty-eight excess minutes of showering. This translates to about 140 gallons of water saved, so not bad for the first week! Not only did I reduce my water usage I was also able to minimize my energy use by turning the shower temperature dial to only half as far as I usually do. This means that I heated less water than normal to a lower temperature than I usually do which uses less energy and produces fewer carbon emissions . I expected to have more trouble shaving time off my showers but it wasn't as hard as I expected once I got used to the change in temperature. To continue saving more water and energy I just need to ...
